Selamat Jalan Prof.Dr. Iwang Soewangsih Soediro
Telah berpulang ke Rachmatullah, Prof.Dr. Iwang Suwangsih Soediro pada hari Sabtu, 23 April 2016 pukul 16.47 di RS. Advent Bandung. Jenazah dimakamkan di Pemakaman Keluarga ITB Cibarunai, Bandung.
Obituari
Ny. Iwang Soewangsih dilahirkan pada tanggal 1 Januari 1931 di Serut, sekitar 6 km dari kota Garut, merupakan anak kedua dari enam bersaudara dari pasangan Bapak Djuharja Karjadimadja dan Ibu Marsiti. Masa kecil hingga SMP kelas 3 dijalani di kota Garut dan pada 1949 beliau pindah ke kota Bandung untuk menyelesaikan sekolah lanjutan pertamanya di SMP II Bandung. Selanjutnya pendidikan lanjutan atas diselesaikan di SMA 3 Bandung pada tahun 1951. Setamat SMA pada 1951, beliau melanjutkan pendidikan tinggi di Faculteit Wiskunde en Natuur Wetenschappen, Universiteit van Indonesia te Bandung di jurusan r yaitu pendidikan Farmasi. Sarjana Farmasi diselesaikan pada 1961, sedangkan pendidikan profesi Apotekernya diselesaikan tepat waktu pada 1962. Setelah selesai pendidikan Apoteker, beliau sempat bekerja sebagai Apoteker di Apotek Cihampelas bekerja sama dengan CV. Haruman. Pada 9 April 1967, ibu Iwang menikah dengan Prof. Dr. Soediro Soetarno, salah satu Guru Besar di Departemen Farmasi, FMIPA ITB.
Pada tahun 1977, ibu Iwang berangkat ke Perancis untuk menyelesaikan pendidikan Post Graduatenya. Gelar setingkat Master diperoleh pada tahun 1977 sebagai Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies (DEA) dengan Specialite Chimie Therapeutiques. Sedangkan gelar Doktor diraih pada tahun 1981, sebagai Docteur de Troisieme Cycle dengan Specialite Chimie Therapeutique, keduanya diperoleh di Faculte de Pharmacie, Universite de Montpellier I, Montpellier Perancis. Pendidikan Post Doctoral dilaksanakan di College of Natural Resources, Division of Entomology and Parasitology, University of California Berkeley, USA pada tahun 1989. Beliau melakukan Post Graduate Research di National Institut of Hygiene Scioences, Tokyo, Jepanga pada 1991. Selanjutnya beliau melangsungkan Joint Research di Marine Chemistry Laboratory, Queensland University, Brisbane, Australia pada tahun 1991 – 1992.
Pada tahun 1961 beliau diangkat menjadi Asisten Luar Biasa di Laboratorium Kimia Analitik Departemen Kimia Biologi ITB, dan pada 1 Maret 1962 diangkat menjadi Asisten Ahli di Laboratorium Farmakognosi, Jurusan Farmasi DKB-ITB dengan pangkat F-II. Jabatan Lektor Muda (golongan F-III) diperoleh pada 1 Oktober 1964, lalu jabatan Lektor (F-IV) diraih pada 1 Mei 1966 dan Lektor Pembina (IV a) dicapai pada 1 Maret 1968. Pada 1 April 1973, pangkatnya naik menjadi Pembina tingkat 1 (IV b) dengan jabatan Lektor Kepala Madya. Jabatan Fungsional Lektor Kepala (IV c) dicapai pada 1 Oktober 1984. Guru Besar Madya dengan pangkat Pembina Utama Madya (IV d) diperoleh pada 1 Oktober 1991. Dan akhirnya jabatan akademik tertinggi Guru Besar dalam Bidang Farmakognosi Bahari dengan pangkat Pembina Utama (IV e) diraih pada 1 Januari 1999 dan 1 April 1999. Kemudian jabatan Guru Besarnya diperpanjang hingga berumur 70 tahun dan pensiun sebagai Pegawai Negeri Sipil pada 1 Januari 2001. Walaupun sudah memasuki masa pensiun, beliau masih melaksanakan tugas bimbingan mahasiswa Doktor hingga mahasiswa bimbingannya lulus Doktor. Di samping itu, ibu Iwang masih mengabdikan diri di tempat kelahirannya Garut, sebagai Dekan Fakultas MIPA Universitas Garut hingga tahun (2010 ?).
Jabatan-jabatan struktural yang pernah diemban beliau selama mengabdi di Institut Teknologi Bandung adalah: Kepala laboratorium Farmakognosi , Jurusan Farmasi, DKB- ITB (1963-1969 dan 1971-1973), Pembantu Dekan Bidang Kemahasiswaan di Departemen Kimia-Biologi ITB (1965 – 1967), Ketua Seksi Biologi Farmasi, Departemen Farmasi, FMIPA – ITB ( 1974-1976), Sekretaris Bidang Akademik, Tingkat Pertama Bersama ITB (1985-1988).
Dalam bidang pendidikan, Ibu Iwang mengampu beberapa mata kuliah di Jurusan atau Departemen Farmasi FMIPA ITB, antara lain Farmakognosi, Fitokimia, Kimia Bahan Alam, Kimia Bahan Alam Lanjut, Farmakognosi Bahari dan Bahan Alam Bahari. Di samping itu, beliau menjadi dosen instruktor Acta Mengajar V pada 1983 – 1984. Selama mengabdi di Farmasi ITB dari tahun 1962 hingga 2001, beliau telah membimbing 108 Sarjana Farmasi, 17 orang Magister Farmasi, dan 2 orang Doktor, serta sebagai dosen penguji untuk 6 orang Doktor ITB.
Pada tahun 2000 – 2001, beliau mendapat tugas dari WHO sebagai konsultan di Pusat Pemeriksaan Obat dan Makanan, Direktorat Jenderal Pengawasan Obat dan Makanan, Departemen Kesehatan RI dalam bidang Pengembangan Metode Analisis BKO (bahan kimia obat) dalam obat tradisional/jamu.
Ibu Iwang merupakan salah satu peneliti yang sabar dan ulet dalam bidang bahan alam. Karya inovasi yang paling berkesan adalah produk minuman teh dalam botol yang diteliti dan dikembangkan pada awal 1970 an bersama suami tercinta Prof. Soediro. Hasil karya inovasi lainnya adalah berupa ramuan obat herbal penghancur batu ginjal yang diberi nama Renolit, kemudian beberapa ramuan lainnya yang sudah dikomersilkan bersama perusahan dan industri herbal adalah Adara, Charisma dan Sedap Wangi. Pada saat memasuki masa pensiun, beliau melakukan pendaftaran 11 formula ramuan herbal dengan berbagai khasiat seperti penurun tekanan darah, diabetes, dll.
Bu Iwang Soediro merupakan sosok dosen yang sangat baik, sabar dan penuh perhatian terhadap para mahasiswa. Rasa kasih sayangnya selalu tercermin dalam perilaku sehari-hari, baik sebagai dosen maupun sebagai pembimbing. Banyak mahasiswa yang berhutang budi padanya. Ibu Iwang juga merupakan sosok periset ulung yang sabar dan ulet. Hasil inovasinya dalam pengembangan obat herbal telah dihilirasi oleh industri minuman dan obat herbal dalam negeri. Beliau berpesan agar jangan lupa untuk melakukan pengembangan obat herbal yang berkualitas dan terjangkau untuk peningkatan kualitas hidup masyarakat. Mengingat 90% bahan aktif obat berasal dari tumbuhan darat dan laut, maka beliau berpesan agar kita terus melakukan budidaya tanaman obat , standarisasi dan produksi secara berkualitas, berkesinambungan dan berkelanjutan. Tidak lupa beliau mengingakan kita agar dalam pelaksanaannya dibutuhkan kerjasama yang aktif dan saling pengertian diantara para akademik, usahawan, pemerintah dan masyarakat sebagai pengguna produk yang dihasilkan.
Pada hari ini Ibu Iwang yang kami cintai dan sayangi telah dipanggil menghadap Alloh Tuhan Yang Maha Cendekia , Pengasih dan Penyayang.
