Master of Industrial Pharmacy (MFI)
The development of science and technology has colored the development of medicines, especially in the fields of formulation, production technology, and drug quality control which have involved the application of increasingly sophisticated and complex equipment and methods. This has also been followed by the development of regulations in the pharmaceutical field, especially regulations in the industrial field. The process of globalization in various dimensions of life has also had an impact on the occurrence of globalization in the pharmaceutical field through harmonization at the regional and global levels.
Facing this challenge, professional pharmacists are needed who have the ability to overcome various problems faced by the pharmaceutical industry. The capabilities demanded of a pharmacist by the pharmaceutical industry today can only be met by providing a solid foundation of pharmaceutical science, which is focused on aspects related to aspects of drug production and quality control.
ITB School of Pharmacy has opened a Masters Program in Industrial Pharmacy as an effort to prepare human resources who have more competence for the pharmaceutical industry. The Industrial Pharmacy Masters Study Program is supported by strong expertise and networks as well as ITB’s partnerships with the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory authorities, both domestically and internationally.

Objectives
- To produce graduates who have high integrity, professional skills in managing various routine activities in the pharmaceutical industry, which include the following tasks: pharmaceutical factory design, determination of formulas and techniques for making pharmaceutical preparations, determination of specifications and standardization methods, manufacture/production of pharmaceutical preparations and their control, supervision and quality assurance, packaging, determination of storage conditions and shelf life of products, management of raw materials and finished drugs, registration of finished drugs, participation in producing and disseminating innovations and new technologies.
- To produce graduates who able to solve problems in the production and testing of pharmaceutical preparations in the field accurately and quickly (directed) based on in-depth scientific considerations and by considering various aspects comprehensively, including the development of formulations, standardization for both old and new drugs, and the latest regulatory developments.
- Producing graduates who contribute to the development of pharmaceutical science and technology in the national and international industries in the form of research and development of new products (drugs, cosmetics, biomedical products, nutraceuticals, food and beverage supplements, herbal medicines, and traditional medicines) and standardization of pharmaceutical preparations.
Producing graduates of the Industrial Pharmacy Masters Study Program, ITB School of Pharmacy who have the following competencies:
- Able to design pharmaceutical factories/industries.
- Able to develop and determine specifications and evaluation techniques for raw materials for drugs, processes, and products.
- Able to manage the pharmaceutical industry well.
- Able to follow developments Cutting-edge science and technology in the pharmaceutical field.
New Student Recruitment System
The new student recruitment system includes: New student recruitment policies, new student selection criteria, decision-making systems, and new student admission procedures.

The policy regarding the admission of postgraduate students at ITB refers to the Decree of the Rector of ITB Number 177/SK/I1.A/PP/2013 concerning Academic and Student Regulations of the Bandung Institute of Technology, article 2.2.

Prospective PSMFI students must first register by filling out the registration form provided at the ITB Postgraduate School, Jalan Tamansari No. 64 Bandung. Based on the Decree of the ITB Rector Number 201/SK/K.01/PP/2008 concerning the Requirements for Admission to the Masters and Doctoral Programs at the Bandung Institute of Technology, prospective students are required to submit several required documents as follows:
- A legalized copy of a bachelor’s degree certificate
- A legalized bachelor’s degree transcript
- A minimum TOEFL score of 475 or equivalent to an ITB ELPT (English Language Proficiency Test) of at least 77
- A minimum BAPPENAS TPA score of 475
- A medical certificate from a doctor
In accordance with the Decree of the ITB Rector Number 126/SK/K01/2006 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Applied-Oriented Masters Study Programs at the Bandung Institute of Technology, it is stated that prospective students must have at least one year of work experience in a profession relevant to the field of interest, which is supported by a certificate from the agency/company where the prospective student works. In addition, in accordance with the curriculum designed for this study program, prospective students must meet the following additional requirements:
- Proof of work experience in the pharmaceutical/cosmetics industry for at least 5 years for candidates who are not pharmacy graduates but from related scientific fields
- Statement letter that they are working in a pharmaceutical/cosmetics industry before the selection process until the end of the study period for all prospective students
The selection of new students for the master’s program at ITB is carried out in an integrated manner based on two stages of selection, namely:
- First stage: examination of requirements/administrative documents for prospective students at the ITB Postgraduate School
- Second stage: assessment of prospective students’ academic abilities carried out by the relevant study program and school/faculty
In the first stage of selection, an assessment and examination of the authenticity of supporting documents for registration is carried out. Candidates who meet the administrative requirements selected by DEKTM ITB will be forwarded to SF-ITB to take part in the next stage of selection.
The second stage of selection is carried out at the faculty/school level by a selection team consisting of the Postgraduate Program Committee, SF-ITB Lecturers, and the Head of MFI Study Program. This temporary selection pattern is in the form of an interest interview, the institution of origin when taking undergraduate education, discussing the candidate’s talents and abilities according to their undergraduate academic achievements and the field of work in the industry that is currently being pursued and that is of interest in the future such as production, quality control, quality assurance, or research and development, sources of funding, time commitment for study and the proposed final project topic. In addition, questions are also asked about the candidate’s understanding of the PSMFI curriculum and questions about the master plan or institutional development strategy and expertise in their respective institutions, so that the level of benefit from studying at the ITB School of Pharmacy becomes more significant. On that occasion, all members of the selection team wrote recommendations separately for each candidate interviewed. The recommendations submitted were submitted to the Dean of SF ITB and DEKTM ITB for final decision making. The results of the selection from the School of Pharmacy are then submitted to the ITB Postgraduate School to be determined and announced as the final results of the PSMFI new student admission selection. Prospective students who pass the admission selection then re-register.
